BI lauds arrest of fake liaison officer involved in illegal recruitment

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente lauded the recent arrest of a man posing as an accredited liaison officer in Pasig City.

In a statement, Morente thanked the Pasig City Police operatives for reportedly arresting the fake officer in Brgy. San Joaquin, Pasig City.

According to news reports, the suspect enticed a woman to pay more than Php300,000 as a placement fee to work in Africa. However, he failed to show up at the airport during the victim’s supposed flight, and upon checking, gave the victim bogus flight details.

“This is a win for our kababayan who are victimized by these unscrupulous individuals,” said Morente. “We encourage people to report these illegal recruiters and human traffickers, who prey on the vulnerabilities of aspiring OFWs. Let them face the harshest penalties of the law and rot in jail,” he stated.

Earlier this month, the BI reported intercepting almost 500 trafficking and illegal recruitment victims that attempted to depart during the first three quarters of the year. They likewise said a total of 8,413 passengers who were deferred departure during the same period for being improperly documented.

Once intercepted, immigration officers turn victims over to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), or the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), as the case may be, for assistance in filing complaints against their recruiters.

He thought of putting it aside first to check and not to disturb the traffic.

But before turning on Padre Diego Cera Avenue, the front of the car caught fire.

He was with his mother and father when the incident happened and had to break the car window to get out.

A concerned citizen in the area at that time helped save the family before the whole car caught fire.

The BFP responded to put out the fire.

The cause is still being investigated, especially since the vehicle is an old model.

The burned car was also immediately removed from the road.
