BI intel ops yield arrest of overstaying KSA national

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of another South Korean national wanted by authorities for involvement in a fraudulent investment scheme.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) said 51-year-old Jun Myung Ho was arrested last Friday at a residential area in Banilad, Cebu. The arrest, according to the BI, was in coordination with Korean authorities and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Regional Field Unit 7.

The BI-FSU operatives were armed with a mission order from Morente who issued the same at the request of the South Korean authorities in Manila.

It was learned the Jun had hidden in the country for more than four years, having arrived February 2018 when he fled to Manila to evade prosecution for his crime.

According to BI-FSU Chief Rendel Ryan Sy, Jun is subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Daegu District Court in South Korea in December 2018, where he was charged with fraud, in violation of the Criminal Act of the Republic of Korea.

“He is also the subject of a red notice from the Interpol which was issued March of this year,” Sy said.

Information obtained from the Interpol’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Manila revealed that Jun had reportedly swindled a compatriot by claiming to the latter that he was contracted to operate a cogeneration plant facility in Orion, Bataan.

He allegedly enticed the victim to invest his money in the project, and as a result of which he received more than 380 million Korean Won, or around US$312,000.
