The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of two illegal aliens in Cavite this week.

BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr., reported the arrest of Nigerian nationals James Ifeanyi Ezenwali, 52, and Nneji Victor Otamba, 54, on Wednesday in General Trias, Cavite.

The arrest, according to Manahan, was conducted in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and officials of Barangay Navarro.

Both were arrested following a mission order issued by BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, after acting on several complaints from members of the community.

The duo has reportedly rented units in the area for almost two years, and was said to be violent, and would verbally abuse neighbors.

Investigation showed that both were already overstaying, and upon arrest were also unable to present their passports, deeming them undocumented aliens.

“Foreign nationals who are a threat to society are considered undesirable aliens,” said Morente. “Our country treats foreigners with hospitality, but once they become a burden to the community because of violence, then they should be deported,” he added.

The two will remain in the BI’s Warden Facility in Bicutan, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.

Farmers, students arrested in Tarlacspost bail

83 farmers, students, journalists, and advocates were arrested in Brgy. Tinang, Concepcion, Tarlac on Thursday.

According to the detainees’ lawyer, 83 of those detained at the Concepcion Municipal Police Station have already posted bail around 7 pm this Sunday.

They were arrested for allegedly destroying a sugarcane plantation of a cooperative in Barangay Tinang on Thursday due to a dispute over land rights that are being disputed due to the Agrarian Reform Law.

The lawyer of the detainees confirmed that the petition/motion for reduction of bail in half was approved.

“Nakapag-raise kami ng more than a million P1.6 siguro, pumayag yung prosecutor sa half yung bail and then yung nireduce ni judge ng P12,000 each kaya na-put up namin yung pangpiyansa,” explained Atty. Jobert Pahilga, the group’s lawyer.

On Friday, 8 of the 91 detained were released for further investigation.

Arraignment and pre-trial are set for malicious mischief and illegal assembly against 83 on Friday.
