The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced that, for the third year in a row, the agency retained its ISO certification due its successful efforts to improve its services to the passenger and transacting public.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente disclosed that the BI successfully hurdled last Thursday and Friday an ISO surveillance audit by experts from Societe Generale Surveillance (SGS).
The audit reportedly affirmed the Bureau’s continued observance of internationally-recognized organizational practices, and its efforts to provide its clients with quality performance and services that are globally competitive.
“We congratulate the hardworking men and women of the BI for this great accomplishment. We could not have wished for a greater reward as we celebrate our Bureau’s 81st anniversary,” Morente said in a statement.
The BI Chief assured that the BI will remain focused on its mission to provide the most efficient, innovative and effective Immigration services to its clientele.
As was the case last year, this year’s audit focused on the BI’s operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), and its tourist visa extension services at its main office.
BI hurdles audit, retains ISO certification for third consecutive year
It was learned that the BI retained its ISO 9001:2015 certification which will remain valid until next year. The BI shared that they plan to expand the scope to include the Bureau’s operations at the international airports in the cities of Clark, Cebu, and Davao.
It is said that that the 9001:2015 certification means the agency demonstrates its ability to consistently provide services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
The BI first obtained its ISO certification 9001:2008 in 2016, and was the first of all agencies attached to the Department of Justice (DOJ) to be ISO-certified. It successfully transitioned to ISO 9001:2015 in 2018.
The International Organization for Standardization is an international standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations.
Founded on 23 February 1947, the organization develops and publishes worldwide technical, industrial and commercial standards. It is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and works in 165 countries.
It was one of the first organizations granted general consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
