BI bans employees from making TikTok videos while in uniform

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) prohibited its workers from making Tiktok videos in uniform.

According to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, posting videos on TikTok while on duty undermines BI’s official uniform integrity.

He added it also violates rules on the use of mobile phones and other gadgets while on duty. It also violates BI’s social media policy.

Morente said employees who will violate the policy may be charged for insubordination and conduct prejudicial to the service’s interest.

”Our policy on the wearing of the BI uniform is clear.  As public servants and supposed model Filipinos, employees must proudly wear their uniform at all times, present a professional image to the public and observe proper decorum and good taste in all their actions while they are on duty,” Morente said in a statement.

The BI chief also reminded the agency’s employees that they must “observe proper decorum on social media to protect the integrity of the agency.”

Morente issued the directive after Tiktok videos of airport immigration officers circulated online. He said the “reckless” videos “belittle the image of the bureau.”

TikTok is a social media platform that is used to make a variety of short-form videos, from genres like dance, comedy, and education, that have a duration from 3 to 60 seconds.
