BI agents nab 3 wanted Koreans

Operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested three South Koreans, who are in the Bureau’s list of wanted fugitives and illegally staying aliens in the country.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) said that the three aliens were apprehended on Tuesday, at their residence inside a subdivision in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Those arrested were identified as Han Jeongcheol, 47, Yang Wonil, 48, and Cho Sunggye, 56.

According to the report, the FSU operatives conducted the operation to serve a deportation warrant against Han, who was ordered expelled by the BI for being a fugitive wanted for illegal drugs in his country.

However, the FSU officers also encountered Yang and Cho, who happened to be inside the house during the operation.

In turned out, upon verification with South Korean authorities, that Yang is also a fugitive who is wanted for fraud in his country.

It was learned that a Korean court issued an arrest warrant against Han on August 23, 2018 after being charged for violating his country’s Narcotics Control Act.

Yang, on the other hand, is also subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Seoul district court a year ago, based on the charge of fraud in violation of Korea’s Criminal Act.

As for Cho, it was found that he, too, is wanted by the BI, having been ordered deported by the Bureau eight years ago for being an undocumented and overstaying alien.

The trio are now detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending their deportation.

Last week, BI operatives also arrested a Korean fugitive, wanted in his country for fraud.

In a report from Intelligence Officer Melody Penelope Gonzales, elements from the BI Mindanao Intelligence Task Group (MITG), in coordination with the  XI-South Eastern Mindanao Regional Office, arrested 61-year-old Lee Sanghun in a restaurant in Calinan District, Davao City.

Lee is subject of a manhunt of the BI’s Intelligence Division upon receiving information of his crimes from Korean authorities in July.
