Saudi will pay P4.6 billion owed to OFWs

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said KSA Labor Minister Ahmed al-Rajhi would visit the country in December when KSA is expected to pay off their debt to OFWs.

“So the unpaid salaries of our OFWs can be settled just in time for Christmas,” said Bello.

It will be recalled that the Philippines has implemented a recruitment ban in the KSA due to reports of abuse and non-payment of wages by OFWs.

But last week, Bello went to Saudi and met with Al-Rajhi, who pleaded for the ban to be lifted. Bello agreed if the KSA would pay their salary debts and other benefits to 9,000 OFWs.

“But our government is really thankful that the meeting with the KSA labor minister was fruitful,” said Bello.

“Ngayon ang ating mga migrant workers ay magkakaroon na ng maligayang Pasko,” dagdag niya.
