American dead in Cebu van crash is suspected heart attack victim

A 57-year-old man American died while driving his multicab along the national highway of barangay Binongkalan, Catmon, northern Cebu yesterday.

John William Saunders III, who is from San Antonio Texas, was taken to hospital by passersby but was declared dead on arrival.

Police said Saunders was on his way north and on swerving to the right hit the resort’s bamboo fence. Doctors said Saunders likely suffered a heart attack at the time though he sustained no injuries nor concussions.

Dr Jake Basilla and Dr Abdul Macapagal said medications for heart ailment were found in his bag. Police want to conduct an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
