7 members of 1 family in CDO tested positive for Delta variant

Seven members of one family in Cagayan De Oro City tested positive for the more contagious Delta variant of COVID-19.

This was announced by Mayor Oscar Moreno Thursday. Aside from 7 family members, there is another Delta variant case in the city.

The oldest in the family is the grandfather, 62, and the youngest is an 11 -month -old baby. It was found out that the family from Barangay Balulang held a birthday party. According to Moreno, most of them were asymptomatic except for one taken to a health facility.

Their specimen was sent to the Philippine Genome Center on July 7, and the results came out on July 25.

The family was certified “recovered” on July 15 and returned to their home. However, Moreno ordered the family to return to the temporary treatment and monitoring facility for retesting and re-observation. Neighbors will also be monitored for exposure and studied if a granular lockdown needs to be declared.

There is also a Delta case that originated in Barangay Canitoan.

Due to the new cases, Delta cases in Cagayan de Oro have reached 13.

Moreno called on residents not to panic and continue to follow health protocols while also conducting vaccinations.

The enhanced community quarantine in Cagayan de Oro has been extended until August 7. On July 16, the city was subjected to ECQ due to the discovery of the Delta variant from five COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, nearly 100 variant cases have been recorded in the Philippines through the country’s ongoing biosurveillance.

This is after the  (DOH), University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC), and UP National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH) reported their new batch of whole genome sequencing results.

Here are the more infectious variants of COVID-19 added in the country this Thursday:

  • Delta variant (97)
  • Alpha variant (83)
  • Beta variant (127)

This raises the number of Delta variant cases in the Philippines to 216.

“Of the six ROFs, two were from seafarers of MT Clyde and Barge Claudia, currently anchored off in Albay, and four were from crew members of MV Vega that arrived from Indonesia,” DOH, PGC, and NIH said.
