6 dead including PWD, mother, 3 children in Tondo fire

Six people were confirmed dead, including a mother and her children and a person with a disability when fire engulfed houses in Manila’s Tondo district, Thursday morning.

GMA News’ Sam Nielsen on Dobol B sa News TV identified the five victims as Odessa Conde, 36, and her children, Kiefer, 8; Kiara, 9; and Yexel, 10;  and a person with disability Jean Paul Esguerra, 42.

The sixth victim, Aquilina Havana, was recovered at 8:54 am, said Manila Fire District Arson Chief Fire Inspector John Joseph Jalique.

The early morning Tondo fire burned 20 houses and left six people dead at the corner of Katamanan and Yuseco Streets in Barangay 230, Zone 31. It was declared fire out at 7:14 a.m.

Fire consumes P1M worth of properties in Cebu City

Fire destroys 1 million pesos worth of properties in a residential area in Barangay Luz, Cebu City, Monday night (January 13).

According to Fire Officer 2 Fulbert Navarro ng Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire started on the third floor of Lapiz family’s house at Sitio Sto. Nino, 8 pm yesterday. Fire out was declared at around 9:50 pm wherein the fire burned around 60 homes.

The victims of the fire now stayed at the Sitio Abellana Gym, and the local Barangay Luz government has given already given them food assistance.

The BFP is still investigating the cause of the Cebu fire. They are looking at electrical connection problems that could have been the source of the fire.

Meanwhile, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella said the fire victims would be able to return to their areas because the government owns it. He also said the government would provide financial assistance to the victims.
