5-year-old boy dies after wall collapsed in Iloilo

A 5-year-old boy died after being hit by a house’s collapsed wall in Iloilo city Thursday afternoon.

According to Mayor Stephen Palmares, it rained all day in the city, and it is possible that the ground on which the wall was built softened, so it collapsed, and Christian Aguilar Sorongon was hit.

The victim’s house is said to be standing in a low place while the collapsed wall is high. The home of the victims in Barangay Poblacion Ilaya is said to be made of light materials.

Aside from Sorongon, Shaina Mae Panila, 19, and Joland Sampiano, 23, who both live in the area, were also injured.

Rescuers struggled to rescue the trapped victims. Authorities rushed them to the hospital, but Sorongon was declared dead on arrival after sustaining severe head injuries.

The local government reminds residents to be careful, especially those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas of the city.

The incessant downpour was caused by the low-pressure area in the city, according to PAGASA.

8 policemen allegedly involved in theft recommended being removed from PNP

The Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police has recommended the dismissal of eight police officers accused of robbery in Angeles City, Pampanga, in January.

The IAS allegedly submitted its recommendation to the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management on April 4 to remove such police officers from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Anti-Organized Crime Unit.

They face charges of robbery in band, extortion, and illegal detention and administrative charges for grave misconduct.

It will be recalled that CIDG Angeles City Field Unit personnel arrested them after receiving a report on January 26. CIDG members identified the suspects in the theft in a residential area in Diamond Subdivision in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City.

They cornered the suspects saying they were conducting a buy-bust operation. Seven Chinese men and a Filipino maid were victimized inside the house while several computers set up similar to the POGO operation were recovered.

The suspects’ vehicle was found with various Chinese items including some jewelry, belongings, and cash of approximately P300,000 and US bills.

The suspects allegedly could not show any documents that these were legitimate operations.
