House Speaker Martin Romualdez is reporting to Congress the five police escorts of the murdered governor, Roel Degamo.
Because based on the initial report received by Speaker Romualdez, the five police bodyguards assigned to Degamo did not report the day the officer was murdered.
According to the furious Congress leader, “mga security sila ng opisyal tapos hindi sila papasok gayong alam nila na may banta sa buhay ni Gob. Degamo dahil sa away pulitika sa lugar.”
Romualdez added, “alam na alam ng mga ang gunman na hindi papasok ang mga security escort ni Gob. Degamo kung kaya’t madali nilang napasok ang bahay ni Gob at nasagawa ang karumal-dumal na krimen.”
The representative from the 1st district of Leyte added that Degamo was given six police bodyguards after he reported to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec Benhur Abalos regarding the death threats he was receiving.
According to Speaker Romualdez, the killing of Governor Degamo is similar to the killing of former AKO Bicol Congressman Rodel Batocabe in 2019.
Batocabe is running for mayor of Daraga, Albay and there are threats on his life allegedly from the incumbent mayor, Carlwyn Baldo.

Batocabe’s police escort was also a no-show on the day he was murdered.
Because of this, congress will revisit the case of the killing of their former colleague, Batocabe, in aid of legislation so that such cases do not happen again.
“And if we find out in this congressional inquiry na may tumanggap sa PNP ng areglo para magbulag-bulagan at hindi papasukin ang mga escort ni Degamo. We will recommend the filing of charges against these officials kahit sino pa sila,” said Romualdez.
Meanwhile, six employees of Negros Oriental Congressman Arnolfo Teves, Jr. are now in the custody of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).
PNP Spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo confirmed this after the 10 Search Warrants were filed for violation of RA 10591 and R.A.9516 issued by Hon. Allan Francisco Garciano, Executive Judge of the RTC, Mandaue City, Cebu.
Individuals in the custody of the CIDG were found during the raid on Teves’ properties. Four others are considered at-large, including the congressman.
