Over 400 call center employees in Davao City tested positive for COVID-19

On Monday, a local health officer said 403 employees of a call center company in Davao City tested positive for COVID-19.

In a virtual presser, Dr. Marjorie Culas, the city’s assistant city health officer, said about 1,000 employees of the call center underwent a swab test after some of them first tested positive for the disease.

“That is high already. High positivity rate. We are really forced to lock down the area. Talagang surge na within the workplace ang nangyari sa kanila,” said Culas.

The call center company, which was not named by authorities, is now temporarily locked down.

Culas added that many business process outsourcing companies had transmitted the disease in their office spaces.

“Nag-heighten ang ating surveillance through swabbing our suspect and probable people,” he said.

So far, 11 call center companies have recorded COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, many COVID-19 cases are also reported in 26 establishments. This includes government offices, stores, banks, churches, as well as food and non-food establishments.

NCR tourists flock again to Boracay after easing restrictions

Tourists flocked to the island of Boracay in the first week of June in conjunction with the removal of travel restrictions in areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) status.

According to data released by the Malay Tourism Office on Monday, 2,905 tourist arrivals were recorded from June 1 to June 6, Sunday.

According to Felix Gregorio Delos Santos, chief of the office, tourists from NCR had the most arrivals to the island at 1,760.

“Natutuwa kami na open na, in-allow ng IATF through the support of DOT. At least ok na ang tourist natin incoming from NCR na pumunta dito sa Boracay,” said Delos Santos.

He added that the Malay local government is enforcing stricter surveillance to comply with the safety and health protocol against COVID-19 on the island of Boracay.
