It is expected that 30 to 40 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines will arrive from this June to August.
According to Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., chief implementer of the National Task Force Against COVID-19, the government will receive 10 to 11 million doses of the vaccine this June, including 5.5 million from China’s Sinovac Biotech and 1 million that last Sunday.
Additionally, 1 million doses are coming on June 10; 4.2M from the vaccine-sharing COVAX Facility, including 2M Pfizer doses also coming on June 10 and 2M AstraZeneca; 250,000 Moderna and 100,000 Sputnik V vaccines of Russia.
According to Galvez, up to 400,000 to 500,000 people could be vaccinated every day next month.
“Dadagsa na po ang bulto ng ating mga bakuna… All in all, makaka-receive po tayo ng 30 to 40 million ngayong June, July, and August,” said Galvez.
Meanwhile, Galvez also said children and teens could get vaccinated against COVID-19 by the fourth quarter of 2021.
According to Galvez, most COVID-19 vaccines approved for minors will arrive in the last quarter of the year.
40 million COVID-19 vaccines to arrive from June to August
The COVID-19 manufactured by Chinese firm Sinovac and American drugmakers Moderna and Pfizer have been authorized for children and teenagers.
“Nakikita po namin baka fourth quarter po [magsimula] kasi doon po dadagsa, may makukuha po tayo na mga Pfizer, Sinovac, at ‘yung Moderna,” Galvez said.
(We expect the vaccination of minors to start in the fourth quarter because that’s when we’ll get the bulk of Pfizer, Sinovac, and Moderna shipments.)
According to Galvez, there are around 29 million minors in the Philippines.
“Sinasabi ng experts, hindi natin makukuha ang (Experts say that we won’t achieve) herd immunity if there is a sizeable amount of population that is roaming around unvaccinated,” Galvez said.
The COVID-19 vaccination of children would enable the return of face-to-face classes.
According to Reuters, China has approved emergency use of Sinovac Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine in people aged between three and 17, its chairman Yin Weidong told state TV.
