His father, a member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU), was having a drink with friends when three unidentified armed men suddenly entered and shot him.

The boy was shot in the left side of the waist and taken to the Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital in Montevista town.

Ammunition shells suspected to be from .45 and .40-caliber pistols were recovered at the crime scene.

Health workers, laborers, disappointed of SONA 2021

Many workers were disappointed because, despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s lengthy speech in his last SONA on Monday, he did not discuss the issue of ‘endo,’ wage problems, and health workers’ benefits.

In 2019, the President vetoed the proposed Security of Tenure Act due to its possible impact on employers.

It was refiled in the Senate, and Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello asked to be certified as urgent.

But since there is no mention of SONA, Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate thinks that the workers are once again victims of bitter jokes.

“Parang doble-insulto ‘yon sa mga manggagawa dahil sino ba ang nangako? Masakit na biro ‘yon lalong lalo na sa panahong ito ng krisis,” said Zarate.

The President did not fail to thank the frontline workers who continue to fight the pandemic.

But the Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) asks, why until now, are they still enduring low wages, overdue benefits, and being contractual?

“Talagang ipinagmalaki niya na dinoble niya ang sahod ng mga kapulisan… Humaharap kami sa pandemya na ito, sa kalaban na hindi namin nakikita. So dapat dinoble din niya ang sahod namin,” said Robert Mendoza of AHW.
