4 policemen and 1 ex-cop, suspects in murder of a couple in Cebu

All those allegedly involved in the theft and murder of the victim couple outside their house in San Fernando, Cebu, last week have surrendered. Four of the five suspects active police.

In a report by Alan Domingo on GMA Regional TV News on Friday, the suspects were identified as Police Staff Sergeants Rene Catamora, Junrey Ypil, Junrey Batobalonos, Master Sgt. Alvin Enad, and former police officer Esmeraldo Quillosa.

Police officers who allegedly robbed and killed the couple Peter and Ma Louela Baringui-an were stationed at different police stations in San Fernando, Cebu, on February 13, 2022.

According to police, it was Sunday night, and the couple was preparing dinner to eat outside their house when the perpetrators came and shot the victims.

The couple died immediately, and their children survived.

The five culprits allegedly robbed the victims’ house and stole money and jewelry.

The suspects, who are now detained at Police Regional Office 7, surrendered at separate police stations and on different days.

According to Brigadier Gen. Roque Vega, PRO 7 director, Catamora, assigned to the Consolacion police station, surrendered on Feb. 18.

When Catamora surrendered to the PRO 7 headquarters in Cebu City, it was here that he revealed other suspects in the crime.

Catamora also brought the pick-up truck they used in the crime with a bullet wound because the victims’ relatives allegedly retaliated with gunfire when they were about to flee.

Ypil, who was assigned to Danao City, surrendered to the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO).

The two signed a statement confessing to the crime they committed.

This was followed by Batobalonos’ surrender to the Lapu-Lapu City Police, where he was stationed.

Quillosa surrendered at the San Fernando Police Station, while Enad, was assigned to the Ronda Police station.

The suspects were charged with robbery with double homicide.

According to Vega, the first purpose of the suspects in the couple was embezzlement. But the husband allegedly fought back, so they killed him and the wife of the barangay councilor in the area.

He said the police are still investigating to find out if anyone else is involved in the crime.
