4 centenarians in Davao region received P100,000 each

Four grandparents who reached the age of 100 in various parts of the Davao region recently received P100,000 cash each.

In the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte, Sofia San Juan, 102, received P100,000. In contrast, the surviving family of the late Agripina Jala, 100, received the cash gift after they completed the requirements.

The staff of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao Region (DSWD) visited the centenarian’s house on Friday and handed over the aid to the family.

In Davao del Sur, 100 -year -old Encarnacion Certifico was also given P100,000 in Sulop town on Thursday.

Certifico has five children, 78 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was also given P10,000 each by the local government unit and the provincial government.

101-year-old Francisco Suarez also received P100,000 cash in Magsaysay town, Davao del Sur on Wednesday.

According to Suarez, the secret of his long life is eating vegetables and fruits and avoiding vices such as smoking and drinking alcohol.

The regional DSWD reminded the family to make the need of the centenarians a priority in the aid received.

A Centenarian is a natural-born Filipino who has reached one hundred years old and above, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad.

According to Republic Act No. 10868 or the “Centenarians Act of 2016,” all Filipinos who reach the age of one hundred (100) years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, shall be honored with:

  • Letter of Felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the celebrant for his or her longevity.
  • A Centenarian Gift in the amount of one hundred thousand pesos (P100,000.00) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

In November 2021, Francisca Susano, the oldest Filipino living in Kabankalan City in  Occidental, passed away on Monday at the age of 124.

According to  One Western Visayas, relatives confirmed the passing of Francisca Susano, who celebrated her 124th birthday on September 11, 2021.

Guinness lists Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment as the oldest person who ever lived. She was 122 years old and 164 days old when she died on August 4, 1997.
