2 senior PNP officials tagged in shabu ‘cover up’

The two high-ranking PNP officials are ready to face the complaint filed against them in connection with the alleged cover-up of 990 kilos of shabu seized in October 2022 in Manila.

The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has filed multiple complaints with the Ombudsman against 50 police officers, including 12 PNP officers in connection with what is considered the largest drug haul in the history of the Philippines.

According to former Philippine National Police – Drug Enforcement Group Director Police Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo, he regrets that he is among those who filed a complaint by Napolcom.

“Nakakalungkot po kasi di ba tayo ang nakahuli ng mahigit isang tonelada na yan? At ni-report natin yan after 5 days nalaman natin na may nangyari palang pilferage, ni-report pa rin natin at tayo pa po ang nagbigay ng CCTV footages yan,” said Domingo.

“But then I respect the leadership of Napolcom, I respect our SILG [Secretary of Interior and Local Government Benhur Abalos]. This will be a welcome development para once and for all ma-prove natin na hindi tayo kasali sa sindikato,” added Domingo.

According to Domingo, who has been in the PNP for 33 years, he remained faithful to his duty. He said he is preparing his evidence to answer the complaint filed against him.

The official hopes to clear his name before retiring in May next year.

According to Police Col. Julian Olonan, he also respects Napolcom’s decision to include him among those who are facing complaints.

“Para sa akin it’s a normal process ano, ginagawa rin lang naman ng Napolcom ang kanilang trabaho base doon sa kanilang findings,” said Olonan.

Olonan is the former head of the PDEG Special Operations Unit Region 4A, and he was among those who responded when 990 kilos of shabu were seized.

Olonan also insisted that he had nothing to do with the alleged cover-up that happened.

This Tuesday, Abalos announced that Napolcom and the PNP have filed a criminal complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman against 50 police officers allegedly involved in the seizure of 990 kilos of shabu in Manila in October 2022.

Aside from the criminal complaint, Napolcom is continuing its administrative proceedings against the police involved.

Napolcom has completed the pre-charge investigation on the 48 seen in the CCTV video and is expected to release the resolution in the next 15 days.
