Family of 2 Delta variant cases in Manila negative for COVID-19

The family of two Delta variant cases in Manila tested negative for COVID-19 after undergoing RT-PCR test.

According to Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, the close contacts of the two individuals were immediately traced, based on the order of the Department of Health. (DOH).

“What we did, based sa suggestion ng DOH, hanapin ‘yung mga close contact, which we did immediately, thanks to Manila Health Department,” Domagoso said in an online public briefing on Friday.

“Then, we tested those immediate family. Salamat sa Diyos, negative po ‘yung initial result. Iniintay pa natin ‘yung ibang tao. Nag-negative sila sa RT-PCR swab test kasi ang Delta variant ay hindi nade-detect sa antigen, nade-detect lang na positive ka,” he added.

The DOH previously reported that there were two cases of Delta variant in Manila: one died when rushed to the emergency room on June 28, while the other was an outpatient with an onset date of June 23 and had recovered.

“For purposes of transparency, mga kababayan, meron po sa Maynila. Bago tayo ininform ng DOH ay three weeks nang nangyari,” said Domagoso.

He said there would be no lockdown in Manila, but he urged the public to continue to be careful and follow health protocols. He also said that the resolution to allow the children to go out would not be revoked.

“Kung tutulong kayo, mga kababayan, hindi natin kailangan mag-lockdown. We must learn how to live with COVID-19. COVID-19 will stay. We will protect you by making vaccine available to you,” said Domagoso.

Meanwhile, it is said that there may be local transmission of the COVID-19 Delta variant in the .

According to OCTA Research Fellow Guido David, there may be already local transmission of the Delta variant in the Philippines because the  of the results of genome sequencing in the country is not real-time.

“Baka may pagkalat na ng Delta variant sa bansa natin pero di natin alam kung nasaan siya,” said David.
