2 Chinese victims of illegal detention rescued in Pampanga

Authorities rescued two Chinese nationals who were illegally detained at a hotel in Angeles City, Pampanga, on Sunday.

According to PCapt. Nijel Sanoy, chief of the Angeles City Field Unit of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 3, the operation stemmed from a complaint by the brother of one of the victims that they were forcibly taken to a hotel and detained by an unidentified suspect.

“Nagpasaklolo ‘yung biktima na nasa loob…good thing may kapatid sa labas ‘yung isa, ‘yun po ‘yung nagreport sa opisina natin,” he said.

During the initial investigation by the authorities, one of the victims applied in Pasay City as a make-up artist. Still, something else happened while their application was allegedly being processed.

“Ni-recruit nila ‘yung isang victim natin, nag-apply kasi ng trabaho, kaso ‘yung trabaho na in-apply-an niya iba pala, ang pinalabas ng mga suspek, dadalhin kasi ipapa-swab test, eh ‘yun pala dinala hanggang Angeles which is hindi naman daw ‘yun ang napagkasunduan, tapos ikinulong na sila, tapos ‘yung isa may pasa,” added Sanoy.

(They recruited one of our victims because he applied for a job, but the job he applied for was different. The suspects told them they would be taken for a swab test, but they were taken to Angeles instead. It was not what they agreed to. They were detained, and one of them had bruises.)

The victims were a 25-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man who were all Chinese nationals. Three fellow Chinese nationals who arrived at the hotel were arrested.

The suspects will face charges of Serious Illegal Detention and violation of Republic Act 10364 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012.

Last week, three  allegedly captured by the syndicate were rescued in different places in Metro Manila. One of the victims escaped while carrying the part of the bed where he was handcuffed.
