A teenage girl was killed while her two siblings and grandmother were injured after their house in Quezon City collapsed.
According to a report by Dano Tingcungco on GMA News “24 Oras” on Monday, it said the house was owned and built by the victim’s father, Sonny Macabagdal, in Barangay Obrero.
Macabagdal went outside for a moment when he heard a loud noise. His 79-year-old mother and three children were left inside the house.
But after a while, his house suddenly fell into the river.
He lost his youngest daughter, Jessalyn, who just celebrated her birthday last Thursday.
“‘Yung bunso ko may mga sugat din sa parteng mata. Dito (sa likod) may bubog na tumusok…Nandiyan na ‘yan e, tanggapin na lang po,” said Macabagdal.
(My youngest has a wound near her eye. A broken glass pierced her back. It’s already there. I should just accept it.)
Macabagdal’s mother and his two other children aged 12 and 17 were wounded.
The victims were taken to East Avenue Medical Center.
According to Macabagdal, he personally built their house, which has a concrete foundation and has stood on the river for two decades.
The Quezon City government has promised to provide financial assistance to the Macabagdal family.
The family is also among those who would have been relocated by the National Housing Authority but were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 12, three families living on the edge of the creek in Barangay Guadalupe Viejo, Makati City, had lost their homes after their house collapsed when a dike in the creek got destroyed.
According to the barangay, two volunteers in Sitio Ilaya Coronado were treated for the injuries due to the incident.
The residents in the creek jumped to waters and screamed after the dike collapsed past 10 pm.
Resident Mary Jane Clabario was not able to save anything. She said she just received rice from the government, but it fell in the creek.
She is just grateful that her children and grandchildren survived the incident.
Another resident who lost his home, Juanito Javier Jr., said that before the lockdown, he had already complained to the village and city officials about cracks that grow bigger in their area.
Javier added that the cracks could have been caused by the earthquake that hit Metro Manila days before the collapse.
