100 people suspected of food poisoning in Sulu: Army

About 100 individuals, most students, are suspected of being affected by food poisoning after eating food at a camp activity in Sulu, the Philippine Army said this Monday.

According to Army Spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad, 78 students and 22 adults experienced dizziness, stomach pain, and fainting after eating the food prepared by the soldiers of the Philippine Army on Saturday afternoon.

The food was said to have been served to those who attended the 35th Joint Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts of the Philippines Institutional Camp at Camp Bud Datu, Barangay Tagbak, in the town of Indanan.

The patients were rushed to different hospitals, and 88 of them have been discharged, according to Trinidad.

The condition of the remaining patients is said to be stable, and they are expected to be discharged this Monday.

The 1103rd Infantry Brigade and 8th Field Artillery Battalion are reportedly monitoring the condition of the patients.

According to Trinidad, the food sample has been sent to the provincial health office to be tested. It will reportedly be sent to Zamboanga City for “further tests.”

The Army assured that it would continue to meet the needs of the patients.

14 crew members rescued from shipwreck in Occidental Mindoro

This Monday, the authorities rescued the 14 crew members of a bulk carrier vessel that ran aground near Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro.

According to Capt. Eddyson Abanilla, station commander at the provincial coast guard, it was around 6:30 in the morning when the rescue team of the Philippine Coast Guard and disaster officials approached the ship after the waves calmed down.

Attempts were still being made to rescue the crew aboard the MV Manfel Carrier V on Sunday, but authorities could not get close because of the huge waves.

Based on the investigation, at 9:30 in the morning on Saturday, the ship broke down near Fortune Island while heading to Bauan, Batangas, from Subic, Zambales.

But at 6:30 pm on Sunday, they were hit by big waves and swept towards Lubang Island until they ran aground on corals 110 meters away from the shoreline.
