Researchers' at Michigan State University have developed something that can transform windows into a source of free electricity.
Called the “Transparent Luminescent Solar Concentrator,” the invisible solar cells are set directly onto your glass windows.
Using small organic molecules, the invisible power supply absorbs wavelengths of sunlight and channels them to strips of conductors that in essence can produce power or energy for home use.
Though the technology is not new, these solar cell breakthroughs exist due to the use of crystal clear cells. That alone opens up some exciting new possibilities for homeowners and builders alike.
“It can be used on tall buildings with lots of windows or any kind of mobile device that demands high aesthetic quality like a phone or e-reader,” says Lunt a Michigan State techi. “Ultimately we want to make solar harvesting surfaces that you do not even know are there.”
The installation of these devices in the Philippines can prove to be huge as the sunlight throughout the year is nearly endless.
