DENR to test waters in WPS amid alleged human waste dumping by China ships

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will runs tests on the water quality in the West Philippines Sea amid reports that Chinese ships were allegedly dumping human wastes in the area.

“Since there is an allegation na ganyan ang nangyari ay ipapa-check natin ‘yan at titingnan natin kung ano ang pinakamalapit na lugar na pwedeng makakuha ng water sampling,” he said.

(Since there is an allegation like that, we will check and look for the nearest location of the area where we can obtain a water sample.)

Antiporda doubt if the alleged dumping of human waste in the West Philippine Sea was true.

“Kapuna-puna itong pagtatapon ng dumi ng tao ng malalaking barko ng Tsina sa karagatan ng ating bansa, malaki ang idudulot nitong kapinsalaan sa ating yaman karagatan. Maraming mangingisda ay nahihirapan sa agresyon ng Tsina sa West Philippine Sea, ngayon ginagawa na tayong inodoro ng Tsina,” she said.

According to Liz Derr, founder and CEO of Simularity, an expert in geospatial analysis and shares satellite data imagery, the alleged dumping of marine debris by Chinese ships by the Chinese daily over the past few years can be seen.

“It’s so intense you can see it from space,” Derr said in an online forum organized by the Stratbase ADR Institute for the 5th anniversary of the Philippines’ victory in the arbitral tribunal against .
